VERY IMPORTANT POINT: IT’S GOD WHO BRINGS SALVATION, NOT ME

  • The gospel is the power to save (Romans 1:16) 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.
  • John 15:26 The Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus.
  • John 16:8-13 The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin. He guides us to truth.
  • OUR main task is to pray for the lost, and ask God to manifest His grace and save them.

1. No Awareness of God

A person who knows nothing about God, or who has false conceptions about God which come from their background, education, etc.

  • Start by praying for the non-Christian.
  • The Holy Spirit will touch his heart at some point in time.
  • Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit on when to speak Jesus to the non-Christian.

2. Some Awareness of God

  • Share your testimony, “Hear and See” (Luke 2: 20).
Jesus heals, Jesus gives peace, Jesus delivers, Jesus makes me succeed, Jesus changes my life, and so on.
  • They watch your attitudes and behaviours.
  • They see that you are different from others.
  • Continue to give testimonies of “Hear and See” and your blessings when you meet them without being extreme.
  • The 5W “Warmth” should be practiced in the cell group.
  • The Holy Spirit can either touch the non-Christian now or bring such testimony to his mind at a later stage.

3. Contact with Christians

  • Invite the non-Christian to the church or cell group or evangelistic event.
  • Accompany the non-Christian to the church or cell group. Give a car lift if required.
  • Ensure that your church or cell group is welcoming (Bonjour with a smile).
  • Encourage other Christians in church to have a conversation with the non-Christian.
  • Ensure that the non-Christian experience Christian love.

4. Interest in Jesus

  • The non-Christian may see that Jesus can offer a different perspective of life.
  • Some see that Jesus may be an answer to their problems (health, family, work, etc).
  • Others may feel an emptiness. Their life is meaningless or miserable, and they need something different for a meaningful and happy life.
  • Others may be interested in the Christian community life, and friendship.
  • The non-Christian comes to church or cell group more than once.

5. Decide to INVESTIGATE Jesus

Christianity is more than just being healed or for friendship. The non-Christian moves from interest to investigation

  • He wants to know more about the person of Jesus.
  • He may start to read the Bible and may search on the internet.
  • Be prepared to answer to his questions with love (Apologetics – how to defend Christian faith).
  • Seek help of a senior Christian if needed.

6. Grasp the truth about Jesus

Share the “4 Spiritual laws” with non-Christians.

  1. God loves you and created you to know Him personally.
  2. Man is sinful and separated from God, so we cannot know Him personally or experience His love.
  3. Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s sin. Through Him alone we can know God personally and experience God’s love.
  4. We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know God personally and experience His love.

7. Understand the implication of the truth in Jesus

The non-Christian understands the implications of receiving Christ personally by faith:

a) Christ comes into his life (Rev 3:20, Col 1:27).

b) His sins are forgiven (Col 1:14).

c) He becomes a child of God (John 1:12).

d) He receives eternal life (John 5:24).

e) He can now begin the great adventure for which God created him (John 10:10; 2 Cor 5:17 and 1 Thes 5:18). ‘Purpose-driven life’ book is useful.

8. Acceptance of Christian Truth/Personal Need for a Saviour

  • If someone does not feel a personal need of a saviour for his sins, he will not come to the foot of the cross.
  • If, however, he comes, beware that his profession of faith may be due to human pressure.
  • If a person knows he is a miserable sinner, he will respond freely and agree with you.
  • We are entirely dependent upon God’s Spirit. We can pray for the lost until they know they need a saviour.

9. Acceptance of implications

From understanding (head knowledge), the non-Christian accepts the implications of receiving Christ by faith (with his heart):

a) Christ comes into his life (Rev 3:20, Col 1:27).

b) His sins are forgiven (Col 1:14).

c) He becomes a child of God (John 1:12).

d) He receives eternal life (John 5:24).

e) He can now begin the great adventure for which God created him (John 10:10; 2 Cor 5:17 and 1 Thes 5:18).

10. Repentance/Surrender to Jesus Christ/Born Again

The sinner is ready for repentance and surrenders his life to Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.

Practical Prayer for a person to be Born Again:

Lord Jesus, this is my simple prayer to you. I know that I am a sinner and that I often fall short of the glory of God. No longer will I close the door when I hear You knocking. By faith, I gratefully receive Your gift of salvation. I’m ready to trust You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for coming to Earth. I believe You are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank You for Your forgiveness of sins and for giving me the gift of eternal life. I invite Jesus to come into my heart and be my Savior. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
